Coffs and Kangaroos

Thank you for your comments on the last post! We really appreciate your thoughts and we’ve loved sharing this voyage with you via the web. The blog is far from being over… we have many more cruising and sailing adventures ahead of us on Australia’s east coast.

We’ve had a wonderful first week in Coffs Harbour, indulging and celebrating. Ice cream, pastries, fresh bread, fresh vegetables, eating out on the ‘jetty’ strip, and champagne and beers with our boat neighbors. Will loves the fact that all of the beaches appear to be surf-able and he has already caught a few waves right next to the marina. I love the fact that I can walk right off the boat onto the dock and continue any way I please.  The giddy feeling of having arrived in Australia still hasn’t worn off yet.

Yesterday morning our next-door boat neighbor, Peter, took us on a drive up the coast. We were introduced to many wild (or, suburban?) kangaroos and one red bellied black snake. Will screamed at me at the last second and saved me from stepping right on its head! I need to remember to be more vigilant here…

The weather has been funny since we arrived – either a strong northerly or a strong southerly wind. Although we aren’t quite ready to be on our way yet, if the weather calms down we will probably sail south to Port Stephens before the weekend.

I’ve limited myself to nine kangaroo photos here… It was the first time either of us had seen one!

How beautiful …….what a wonderful harbour! No Kangaroos at the Econolodge in Chandler Oklahoma. Yes we are on the way to PD! You do know that 17 of the 20 most deadly snakes are there dont you? Check your shoes! Travel safely

Lovely harbour, cute Joeys and creepy snake. Please make sure you wear covered shoes on your excursions, stepping on a snake could be disastrous. Have fun!
